JACOMIJN DEN ENGELSEN ARTIST PRINTMAKER
Artist Statement
Jacomijn den Engelsen is a visual artist/printmaker. For the last twenty years she has been engaged in making woodcuts, printed on paper and on canvas. Her formats range from miniature till monumental. Den Engelsen uses both the oil-based as well as the Japanese watercolor-based technique, which she studied in Japan.
Den Engelsen finds her sources through the visual and physical experience of her immediate environment; the place where she lives and works, the people in her vicinity. She records observations and experiences through photography and drawings, which later are developed into woodcuts in her studio.
Currently her main subjects are objects, heads and hands. Den Engelsen easily switches between these topics, as they all tell us something about the human condition.
